Single Elimination Tournament Bracket Maker

Enter how many players or teams you have. One loss knocks you out, and byes fill the first round when the number isn't a power of two. You get the bracket, a card for each player, and checks counted again from the finished bracket. Copy the link to share the same bracket.

Players or teams, from 2 to 64.

One player or team per line, in any order. A blank line keeps the default name (Player 1, Player 2, and so on). Up to 30 characters each.

The seed is a random number for the draw, not a ranking. The same seed gives the same bracket. It doesn't keep stronger players apart, and the draw also decides who gets a bye.

Your bracket

Your bracket appears here.

How the bracket is made

The bracket has as many slots as the smallest power of two that fits everyone, so 6 players get 8 slots and 2 byes. Byes go in the slots set by the bye placement tables of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), so no first-round pair has two byes. Players fill the other slots in a random draw. In round 1, neighboring slots play each other, and after that the winners of neighboring matches meet. Only real matches get a number, and later rounds show who plays as “Winner of match 3”.

The seed is the random number behind the draw, not a seeding by rank. The bracket doesn't keep stronger players apart, and the draw, not your list order, decides who gets a bye. The same number of players and the same seed give the same bracket, so a copied link opens the same bracket. This page uses version 1 of the single elimination rules.

What the checks count

After the bracket is made, a separate count reads the finished bracket again. It counts the slots, byes and where they are, pairs with two byes, matches in total and in each round, how each winner and each bye moves on, players who could be in two places in one round, and how many matches each player needs to win. A check shows Met only when its count matches the expected value.

Limits

You can enter 2 to 64 players or teams. The bracket doesn't include seeding by rank, a third-place match, a consolation bracket, courts and times, or a place to enter scores and winners. For a bracket where two losses knock you out, use the double elimination bracket.
