Double Elimination Tournament Bracket Maker
Enter how many players or teams you have. Two losses knock you out: a loss in the winners bracket sends you to the losers bracket, and the two bracket winners meet in the final. You get the bracket, a card for each player, and checks counted again from the finished bracket. Copy the link to share the same bracket.
How the bracket is made
The winners bracket is built the same way as the single elimination bracket: as many slots as the smallest power of two that fits everyone, byes in the slots set by the bye placement tables of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), and players placed in the other slots by a random draw.
Each winners bracket loser drops into a set place in the losers bracket. Losers from round 1 play each other first. In later rounds, the losers bracket survivors meet the players who just lost in the winners bracket, and the drop positions follow the approved double elimination brackets of Little League for 4, 8, 16, and 32 teams. When a bye leaves a losers bracket match with only one player, that player moves on without a match. The winners and losers bracket winners meet in the final. If the losers bracket player wins it, the same two play a second game, so that game is always on the bracket but is played only if needed.
Matches are numbered in the order they can be played. The seed is the random number behind the draw, not a seeding by rank. The same number of players and the same seed give the same bracket, so a copied link opens the same bracket. This page uses version 1 of the double elimination rules.
What the checks count
After the bracket is made, a separate count reads the finished bracket again. It counts the slots and byes, matches in each bracket and in each round, where each winner and each loser goes next, players who move on in the losers bracket without a match, and players who could be in two places in one round. A check shows Met only when its count matches the expected value.
It also counts losers bracket matches whose two players could already have met, round by round. Those counts have no target. The final can always be a rematch.
Limits
You can enter 3 to 32 players or teams. The bracket doesn't include seeding by rank, a third-place match, courts and times, or a place to enter scores and winners.
